Toto was formed in 1976 by a group of well-known session musicians. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1978, included the hit single Hold the Line, which earned the band a Grammy nomination.
TOTO
I Will Remember is unmistakeably a trademark Toto song.
Track: I Will Remember (Steve Lukather, Stan Lynch)
Album: Tambu (1995)
Label: Columbia
Appears on: DALI CD Vol. 2
1982 marked the beginning of the commercially most successful era for Toto. Their new album Toto IV yielded three US Top 10 hit singles, of which Africa and Rosanna have become classics. Earning a total of six Grammy awards, Toto IV was also the band's international breakthrough.
Tambu
In 1995, the band recorded Tambu, a major departure from previous Toto albums and much less appreciated by the general audience than its predecessors.
Less polished and commercial, less over-produced, the album was a step away from the sound that had made Toto popular. And yet, though different, I Will Remember, originally released as the first single of the album, is unmistakeably a trademark Toto song.
I Will Remember
The song is a very complex recording with several noteworthy elements. First, the constant drums with great dynamics perform a remarkable role, while a beautiful piano sound accompanies the strong vocals, all set in a very realistic reverb soundstage. All in all, this track offers a beautiful, powerful sound with great depth and stereo imaging that delivers a state-of-the-art pop mix.
